The Dr. Agustín Stahl Award honors a scientist who has done exceptional work in the natural sciences and whose work has resulted in significant contributions to Puerto Rico, the Caribbean region and the world.
Dr. Agustin Stahl was a physician and scientist of vast training. His pioneering work in the 19th century impacted numerous disciplines in the natural and social sciences such as botany, zoology, medicine, agriculture, archaeology and ethnology, among others. Inspired by Dr. Stahl’s varied contributions, nominees will be scientists who have excelled in one of the disciplines in which he distinguished himself.
To obtain nominations for the Prize, Citizens of Karso (CDK) opens a call for nominations that is circulated through universities, research centers, scientific associations and cyber networks. CDK ensures a fair and rigorous evaluation of nominations by an evaluation committee, independent of the CDK Board of Directors, composed of scientists with the necessary expertise and background and committed to celebrating the sciences as part of Puerto Rico’s cultural heritage.
The biographies with photos of all the award winners will be circulated in rolling exhibits in different institutions and museums in Puerto Rico for maximum dissemination. The final venue for this exhibition will be at the proposed Karso Institute of Puerto Rico and the Caribbean located at Cerro de la Monserrate in Arecibo, Puerto Rico.
In this way, we recognize the work of Puerto Rican scientists dedicated primarily to scientific research and highlight their achievements and legacy to serve as an inspiration to future generations.
