Concho Toad Recovery Pilot Project

We support the reintroduction of this species in the northern karst strip of the island.

As a member of the Concho Toad (Bufo lemur) Recovery Team (Peltophryne lemur) in northern Puerto Rico, CDK has supported the Association of Zoo and Aquariums -AZA-, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Department of Natural and Environmental Resources in the selection of sites for the reintroduction of this species in the Northern Karst Strip since 2006.

Two areas within the El Tallonal nature reserve were selected for the reintroduction of tadpoles of this endangered species. Thousands of Concho Toad tadpoles are brought in annually and released in the breeding ponds. Monitoring studies of this new population are being conducted.
